Our Story

A Vail Valley home base, built to last.

Since the early days of Avon’s rise as a mountain town, The Christie Lodge has been a place people return to, season after season. Here’s how it started, how it evolved, and what’s new as we continue welcoming owners and guests to the valley.

HOW IT ALL STARTED

Early 1980s: A Bold Idea Takes Shape

In the early 1980s, Avon was just beginning to emerge as a year-round mountain town. Beaver Creek Resort was taking shape nearby, and with it came a bold new idea: a ski condominium community designed to make alpine living more accessible. That idea became The Christie Lodge.

Built Differently, From the Start

Originally conceived as a 280-unit ski condo complex, the property was built quickly and ingeniously. Modular units were transported to Avon by railroad and assembled on site using cranes, creating a distinctive lodge-style community just minutes from the slopes.

Why “Christie”

The name Christie comes from a classic skiing term, “stem christie,” a technique used to turn skis downhill. It was a fitting choice for a property rooted in ski culture and mountain tradition.

A Shift That Shaped the Future

Inspired by a trip to the Swiss Alps, the developers encountered a new approach to shared property ownership. That idea transformed The Christie Lodge from a traditional condominium model into a vacation ownership resort, allowing families to return to the same place, year after year.

Finding Steady Ground

Like many legacy resorts, the early years came with challenges. In 1988, a turning point arrived when the Board of Directors brought in Lynn Weas, founder of Resort Advisory Group, whose leadership helped stabilize and revitalize the lodge.

The Christie Lodge Today

Today, The Christie Lodge is proudly managed by its Owners Association and guided by an elected Board of Directors. While much has evolved, the heart of the lodge remains the same: spacious all-suite accommodations, a welcoming atmosphere, and a place families love returning to.
